What Drives the Work
The Bridge Between Traditions
Sound healing isn’t new. It’s been used across cultures for thousands of years — Tibetan monasteries, Indian temples, Aboriginal ceremonies. What’s changed is that we now understand the mechanism. Modern neuroscience validates what practitioners knew intuitively: specific frequencies trigger measurable changes in the nervous system. Marcus’s work bridges these worlds. He respects the ancient wisdom while grounding everything in contemporary research. That’s not diluting the practice — it’s making it accessible to people who need scientific evidence before they’ll trust their own experience.
Personalization Over Protocol
There’s no one-size-fits-all frequency that heals everyone. Your nervous system is unique. Your life stress is unique. Your healing needs are unique. That’s why Marcus develops individual frequency protocols rather than running the same session for every participant. He listens first — to your goals, your current state, your history — then designs the acoustic environment specifically for you. Sometimes that’s a 60-minute deep bowl session. Sometimes it’s 30 minutes of gong work combined with crystal bowls. The difference matters.
Sacred Space as Part of Healing
Environment isn’t decoration. It’s part of the medicine. That’s why Resonance’s sessions happen on Lamma Island — the natural acoustic properties, the isolation from urban noise, the proximity to water and earth. Marcus treats the space itself as a healing instrument. Attention to room acoustics, ambient temperature, natural light, even the time of day matters. When you arrive for a session, you’re not just hearing sound frequencies. You’re entering a carefully considered environment designed to help your system relax and reset.
Evidence Without Losing Mystery
Marcus publishes his research. He can show you the cortisol reduction, the heart rate variability improvements, the sleep quality gains. But he’s careful not to reduce healing to just the measurable parts. Some of what happens in a sound bath can’t be captured in data. Profound shifts in perspective, a felt sense of peace, unexpected emotional release — these are real, they matter, and they don’t fit neatly into a research paper. The goal isn’t to make sound healing scientific in a way that erases its depth. It’s to honor both the measurable and the mysterious.
Areas of Focus
Over 2,000 sessions delivered across Asia-Pacific. Expertise spans multiple acoustic modalities and therapeutic applications.
Himalayan Singing Bowls
Traditional hand-hammered bronze bowls that produce complex harmonic overtones. Marcus selects and tunes instruments for optimal therapeutic frequency output, using specific bowl combinations to address different healing needs.
Crystal Bowl Healing
Precision-tuned quartz crystal bowls calibrated to specific frequencies. Marcus uses chakra-aligned frequencies and custom combinations to target particular energy centers and physical wellness outcomes.
Gong Therapy
Ancient instruments producing profound low-frequency vibrations. Marcus integrates gong work into sessions for deep nervous system activation and cellular-level resonance, particularly for trauma release and meditation deepening.
Parasympathetic Activation
Designing frequency protocols that measurably shift the nervous system from sympathetic (stress) to parasympathetic (rest) dominance. This foundation underpins all healing work at Resonance.
Acoustic Space Design
Creating optimal acoustic environments for healing. This includes room acoustics, resonance frequency management, and environmental considerations that amplify the therapeutic impact of sound work.
Personalized Frequency Protocols
Developing custom healing plans based on individual assessment. No two sessions are identical. Marcus evaluates your current state, intentions, and nervous system responsiveness, then designs the acoustic intervention accordingly.
Research & Documentation
Rigorous documentation of outcomes and publication of findings in peer-reviewed wellness journals. Marcus maintains high standards for measuring therapeutic efficacy while remaining grounded in the lived experience of participants.
What 14 Years Looks Like
Across retreat centers, private clients, and institutional partnerships throughout Asia-Pacific.
From initial training through advanced specialization and program leadership at institutional level.
Research documenting measurable outcomes in stress reduction, sleep quality, and nervous system function.
From formal degree through specialized training and ongoing research collaboration with university neuroscience departments.
How This Started
Marcus’s path to sound healing wasn’t planned. He was a classical musician — trained, technically skilled, but gradually realizing that playing other people’s compositions wasn’t what he needed. Around 2010, during a particularly difficult period, he attended a sound bath session almost by accident. A friend invited him. He almost didn’t go.
But something shifted in that 90-minute session. He can’t fully explain it. The vibrations seemed to bypass his thinking mind and speak directly to something deeper. He felt genuinely relaxed for the first time in years. Not the surface relaxation of a good night’s sleep, but a fundamental release in his nervous system. He wanted to understand what just happened.
That question became his career. He returned to university to study music therapy formally. Then he traveled to Nepal and Tibet for three years, training under master practitioners. He wanted to understand both the tradition and the science — how these ancient practices actually worked at a physiological level. When he returned to Hong Kong, he connected with researchers at HKU to document the outcomes scientifically.
Now, 14 years later, he’s facilitated over 2,000 sessions. He’s published research. He’s trained other practitioners. But the core motivation hasn’t changed: helping people access the same kind of genuine nervous system reset that he experienced. That’s why he co-founded Resonance on Lamma Island — to create an environment where that experience isn’t accidental, but intentional. Where healing is the primary purpose, not a side effect.

About Resonance Lamma Limited
Resonance Lamma Limited is a dedicated acoustic healing retreat center founded on the principle that sound is medicine. Located on Lamma Island, the center offers specialized programs in sound bowl therapy, vibrational healing, and acoustic meditation designed to reset your nervous system and deepen your wellness practice.
Under Marcus’s direction, every session is personalized. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all healing. Your nervous system is unique. Your life circumstances are unique. Your healing journey should be too. That’s why we spend time understanding your current state and intentions before designing your acoustic experience.
The Lamma Island setting isn’t incidental — it’s integral. The natural acoustic properties of the location, combined with the island’s distance from urban stress and its proximity to natural elements, create an environment where deep healing becomes possible. Every detail, from room acoustics to timing of sessions, supports your parasympathetic activation and nervous system reset.
